Often people either don’t understand or misunderstand the importance of color, but people are visual creatures and color plays a major part in our perceptions. Are you advertising a business dealing with health? Make sure you have plenty of green in your logo and your advertising.
Do you want to represent relaxation and calm? Bring in some earthy browns and use a somewhat monochromatic color scheme. Pastels are also restful. A soft blue is associated with quiet and peace, but in business a rich blue suggests fiscal responsibility and sanctuary.
Red is the color that is the most emotionally intense. Take a look at your grocery store ads, red is one of the predominate colors, unless you are going to shop at a health food store, they’re feature color is usually green.
Red indicates strength, sex, excitement, passion, speed, danger, aggressiveness, and it demands attention. It stimulates both the heartbeat and breathing. Do you want to draw attention to and generate excitement for your business or product? Red will get the job done
Black is also a strength color; it represents elegance, boldness, power, authority, seductiveness, sophistication and class. Black is the ideal choice for text on a light background, but it is hard on the eyes when used as a background on web sites.
Both black and red carry negative connotations too. Red is the color used for the devil and black represents evil or the dark forces.
What message do you want to convey? Color is subliminal and whether or not a person is consciously aware of the effects of the colors around them, they impact us all the time. Before choosing your colors, think about your target market. What emotions do you want to bring to your customer’s mind? Give serious thought to the emotions of your prospective clients and to the message you want to send. Then choose your colors wisely.
